Who I am
In December 2021, I was recommended to apply for my university’s newspaper. COVID-19 had forced the previous staff to resign, so we had to lay down the foundation for the semesters to come. I am proud to say that as the staff grew, so did my leadership and responsibility. I was honored to have my work acknowledged by the Michigan Community College Press Association with 1st place for Best Blog, along with 2nd place awards for Video Production and Online Audio Slideshow, and 3rd for Humor Column.
I was the lead anchor at the collegiate and was given complete freedom to have a hand in whatever I wanted.
The collegiate taught me team building on all levels. When I started, it was just four people. By the time I ended, we had fifteen staff members. I made sure there were no cliques by working collaboratively with every staff member who joined.
I had the freedom to work on topics at both a local level and a mainstream level. I’m very grateful to have learned what field reporting was, while still being able to let my passion flow with opinion pieces.
I want to play into my strengths and be a great interviewer. My passion is interviewing people, making them comfortable enough to get headline-worthy quotes and phrases.
